Boston is nicknamed "America's Walking City" for good reason – it has the highest walk-to-work rate (15.1%) among large U.S. cities.
Across the river, Cambridge tops the list among medium-sized U.S. cities. Almost a quarter (24%) of Cantabrigians commute on foot.
In addition to the Freedom Trail, Boston has plenty of other historic walks. There's a Black Heritage Trail, an Irish Heritage Trail, a Sports Trail, and seven separate sections of a Women's Heritage Trail.
